Hello and welcome to new and old friends

Hello and welcome to new and old friends. I hope that you are keeping cool or warm depending on where you are in the world. Enjoy a cup of coffee, tea or a glass of wine or mulled wine for that matter while you wander through this months newsletter.

Down on the farm, well lifestyle block, Spring is in full swing, we have more grass than we know what to do with, which is a good thing and in a couple of months time we will be wishing for more grass as we dry off over the summer. We are getting daily visits from a mother duck and her brood of ducklings, they come from the neighbours pond and also a couple of young ducks have decided to take up residence in one of the paddocks. Molly, our dog has given up chasing them, the alpaca’s still move them on when they are having their dinner. I haven’t seen the rabbits in awhile so maybe they have found a new home or maybe it’s wishful thinking, they do make an awful mess in the paddocks. We are waiting for the shearer to come and shear the alpaca’s, not something that they totally enjoy but they do feel better for it afterwards. I kept some of the fleece from last year to make some dogs beds, but haven’t got around to doing anything about that yet. When I have time, I would like to be able to spin the fleece then either use it myself or sell it.

The cherry trees have lots of fruit on them and we are hoping to get part of the tunnel house finished so that the birds won’t get the fruit this year. It’s now a race against time to get that done. We are hoping to be able to sell the fruit this year, this is our retirement plan so fingers crossed. We have strawberries fruiting and ripening now which seems early, but I’m not complaining hopefully we will be able to get lots of strawberries this year. The summer vegetable garden has been planted, I’m hoping to get another started with winter vegetables like parsnip, leeks and cauliflower.

Art wise I am in the middle of 3 art courses and I’m feeling somewhat frazzled as I try and keep up with them all. They are all very interesting and different and I’m learning so much from them. I will probably go back and revisit them individually to pick up on things that I missed the first time. I am also hooked on live camera animal viewing. In the last 2 weeks I have been watching and sketching the brown bears in Alaska fishing and now baby sloths, they are so funny to watch and at least they move slower.

As I finish writing this newsletter we have been advised that COVID-19 is in our region which isn’t a nice feeling. Booster for COVID-19 are about to become available and I hope to be in the pre Christmas group, since I am due and in Health but we will see.

Until next month stay healthy, happy and safe
